Practical Car & Van Rental is the fourth largest vehicle rental company in the United Kingdom with over 160 car and van hire locations situated throughout England, Wales, Scotland and the Irish Republic. We have over 25 years experience of self drive hire and pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding service, quality rental vehicles and highly competitive rates.
Training and Support
Practical gives you all the professional training and back-up you need to ensure that your business becomes part of the success story. By building a strong partnership with every franchisee, it tailors the right solutions for each location.
Ongoing support from highly experienced individuals is all part of the package. Our training programme is a step by step method that explains each subject and provides ‘Practical’ experience in all areas of the rental business. An intensive course at our Head Office Training Centre in Birmingham will help you to become acquainted with which models to buy and fleet mix, retailing and trading, customer qualification and sales/telephone techniques and administration.
We also train you to use our insurance package and our operations programme to generate rental agreements. Training will also cover marketing and advertising elements, and how to determine where to spend money the most effectively locally. Monthly memos keep you up to date with the latest deals available, changes to legislation and industry trends. Our franchise support website has all this and more.
Most importantly, and what differentiates us from other franchised rental networks, after opening, one of our operational managers will visit as often as necessary to ensure you get the right start. In the second year and beyond you will receive less frequent, but regular visits & telephone assistance.
Financial Information
The amount of capital investment required is surprisingly low, depending on such things as the intended size of the operation, and the territory you are seeking. The major cash requirement is removed if the vehicles are leased under the Practical leasing programme rather than purchased. A smaller location, such as an add-on to an existing business could require as little as £10,000. Large free standing sites require an investment of up to £50,000 including working capital.

Once a territory is agreed, we put this into a Franchise Agreement which then becomes your area to market and sell into.
